Astro audio splitter12/29/2023 Your computer should automatically detect the MixAmp and headset as an audio device for both input and output. A switch on the back panel puts the MixAmp into PC or console mode.Ĭonnecting the MixAmp Pro TR to your computer is simple: Just plug the included 10-foot micro USB cable into a free port on your PC and put the switch on the back into the right position. The back features the rest of its connections, including a micro USB port, an optical audio input, a 3.5mm aux input, a 3.5mm "stream" port for outputting audio commentary to a separate capture device, and two daisy-chain ports for connecting multiple MixAmps, for entire esports teams or commentary groups. An indicator to the left of the port shows whether the MixAmp is in PC or its respective console mode. The headset connects through the single 3.5mm port on the MixAmp's front panel. Two small buttons between the knobs toggle Dolby audio processing and switch between four different EQ settings (Astro's custom EQ, a sculpted Balanced EQ, a flat EQ, and a Tournament EQ preset that emphasizes certain frequency bands specifically for accurate imaging in esports). ![]() The left knob controls master volume, while the slightly smaller right knob controls voice chat and game audio balance. The top panel is dominated by two large, gunmetal knobs with backlit indicator notches that glow white when the microphone is active and red when it's muted. The new MixAmp Pro TR is a dark gray box measuring 1.8 by 5.4 by 3.6 inches (HWD), with fairly stark corners and edges in contrast with the glossier, more rounded design of its predecessor. It's a redesigned version of the MixAmp Pro TR offered with the 2016 model. If you spend the extra $100 for the A40 + MixAmp Pro TR we tested, however, you'll probably be plugging that headset cable directly into the front of the included MixAmp Pro TR, a headphone amp and mixer designed to work with your PC and either PS4 or Xbox One (depending on which version you get). It terminates in a four-pole 3.5mm plug, so you can use it with any modern game console, PC (PCs with separate headphone and microphone ports require a splitter, included with the standalone A40 but not with the A40 + MixAmp Pro TR), or smartphone with a headphone jack. The A40 connects to your preferred device with an included 6.5-foot cable with an inline mic mute switch. The result is a comfortable fit that won't weigh your head down. The boom arm is very flexible, and can pivot a full 360 degrees.Īt just 13 ounces without the cable, the A40 is slightly lighter than the previous version, and remarkably lighter than most other high-end headsets we've tested in general. It's removable, attaching to the back of the left earcup. The boom microphone is a long, black rubber stick with a plastic capsule on the end featuring an aluminum grille. You can also get additional open-back speaker tag sets for $40, featuring designs based around Call of Duty, Halo, and Nintendo. The Mod Kit is available in blue, green, red, and a dark gray Halo-themed version. The headset can be converted into a closed-back version with Astro's optional $60 Mod Kit (Opens in a new window), which includes closed-back speaker tags, synthetic leather earpads and headband pad, and a voice-isolating replacement microphone. (Opens in a new window) Read Our Turtle Beach Atlas One Review The underside of the headband has a rectangular pad made of the same material as the earpads, mounted between two flexible, sturdy plastic bands. The over-ear earpads are memory foam covered with soft, breathable black cloth. It's mostly matte black plastic around the earcups and headband, with aluminum struts on the sides connecting them and allowing for smooth vertical adjustment to tweak the fit. The headset itself is very similar to the previous A40's design, with some tweaked colors and finishes. It's worth your attention if you're looking for a tournament-level wired gaming headset, even if it doesn't stand out as the absolute best in its field. The $249.99 package, which includes both the A40 TR headset and MixAmp Pro TR USB headphone amp (available for PC and Playstation 4, or PC and Xbox One) has a light, comfortable fit and very strong audio performance. The latest version of Astro's wired A40 TR headset with MixAmp Pro TR faces some very stiff competition in the high-end wired headset field, though. Its wireless A50 headset offers excellent build quality and performance, and its A10 remains one of our top picks for budget wired headsets. ![]() How to Set Up Two-Factor AuthenticationĪstro Gaming has established itself as one of the most consistently high-quality gaming headset manufacturers. How to Record the Screen on Your Windows PC or Mac.How to Convert YouTube Videos to MP3 Files. How to Save Money on Your Cell Phone Bill. How to Free Up Space on Your iPhone or iPad.How to Block Robotexts and Spam Messages.
